A more active weather pattern is forecast across the northern two-thirds of the US this weekend into early next week, with two weak to moderate atmospheric Valley rain and mountain snow is forecast, with snow levels of 3,000 feet to 7,000 feet from north to south and the heaviest precipitation in the Cascades and Sierra, westward. Much of the Southwest and southern California will remain dry, and breezy westerly winds are likely from the Continental Divide into the northern and central Plains Sunday and Monday. Late next week, strong upper-level ridging is forecast to return to the West for dry conditions and valley inversions. Two storms are likely to move eastward from the eastern Plains to the East Coast this weekend and early next week. Most precipitation will fall as rain except across the Upper Mississippi Valley and Upper Great Lakes where it will fall as snow and mixed precipitation. Much of the High Plains will remain dry the next week, with little precipitation for portions of the Southeast and Florida, as well. Snowfall is expected across much of Interior Alaska today followed by very cold temperatures this weekend before temperatures moderate again next week.
