Uncrewed Aircraft Systems and the National Park Service (NPS)
On June 19, 2014, National Park Service Director Jonathon B. Jarvis signed Policy Memorandum 14-05, Unmanned Aircraft Interim Policy. Its purpose was "to ensure that the use of unmanned aircraft is addressed in a consistent manner by the NPS before a significant level of such use occurs within the National Park System." Read Policy Memorandum 14-05 Unmanned Aircraft Interim Policy.
There is the possibility for the official use of a UAS on wildfires in the national parks (the fire may or may not be NPS jurisdiction). Circumstances will dictate who should be notified. If this is situation occurs, please contact the appropriate Regional or National Aviation Manager; contact information can be found in the Interagency Aviation Technical Assistance Directory.
