The GBK is one of 15 National Interagency Support Caches (NISC) in the United States. It provides fire supply and equipment support to incidents within the Great Basin geographic area as well as the other NISC as demand and planning levels are determined.
GBK including the National Interagency Incident Communications Division (NIICD) are located at the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho. A base inventory of approximately 1,800 different items at a value of $30 million are located here. This Bureau of Land Management (BLM) owned cache also supports “All Risk” emergency situations such as floods, earthquakes and hurricanes. Planned events such as a prescribed fire may also be supported.
