There are many types of equipment that firefighters use on the fireline. Some equipment, like dozers, helps build fireline. While others, like wildland fire engines, carry water to the fire. Water tenders have huge water tanks to refill the engines while they work on the fireline. Each type of equipment plays an important role in responding to wildfires.
Engines come in all sizes. They range from pickup trucks with small water tanks on the back to large structure trucks that can carry thousands of gallons of water.
Dozers have large blades that push dirt around and create fuel breaks in front of the fire.
Excavators have many capabilities. They can move dirt and push trees down. They can also dig holes for pumping operations.
Most large fires order catering units to provide meals for firefighters. And, shower units are available for firefighters after a long shift on the fireline.
